What is Gestalt Therapy?

Gestalt Therapy is a holistic, empathic and experiential approach to mental, emotional and spiritual wellbeing that focuses on the here and now – the present moment.

If you’ve gained insight into your struggles but still feel stuck, or feel disconnected from your body, emotions, or relationships, Gestalt therapy offers an experiential and relational way forward. Instead of only talking about problems from a distance, we slow things down and tune into what’s happening for you in the moment, bringing awareness to your thoughts, emotions, and physical responses. It’s an active and embodied dialogue, where insight emerges through presence and connection, supporting change that is felt and integrated. This can be especially helpful when understanding hasn’t yet translated into lasting change.

I believe that a different therapy must be constructed for each patient because each has a unique story.

Features and Benefits of Gestalt Psychotherapy

1. Develop Embodied Awareness:

Explore the mind-body connection and integrate bodily sensations, experiences, and awareness. Gestalt therapy invites you to notice your thoughts, emotions, and bodily sensations as they arise. This present-moment awareness helps you understand your patterns, make conscious choices, and respond to life rather than react automatically.

2. Process Emotions:

In a supportive, relational space, Gestalt therapy helps you fully experience and express emotions. By attending to feelings in the here-and-now, you can integrate them, release stuck tension, and develop greater emotional resilience and wellbeing.

3. Anxiety & Stress:

Learn to manage anxiety and stress in healthy ways, fostering resilience and a sense of calm and balance. Gestalt work helps you identify early signs of stress or anxiety in your body and mind. Through relational exploration and practical techniques, you can develop strategies to manage tension while staying connected to yourself and others.

4. Explore Low Mood & Depression

Rather than simply talking about feelings, Gestalt therapy focuses on how you feel and live them. This approach uncovers patterns, unmet needs, and internal conflicts, fostering self-compassion, insight, and renewed motivation.

5. Relationships:

Gestalt therapy examines how you relate to yourself and others in the present moment. By noticing patterns, setting boundaries, and exploring ways of connecting, you can build more authentic and satisfying relationships.

6. Navigate Grief and Loss:

Navigate the complex emotions of loss and grief with empathy and support. Gestalt provides space to attend to grief as it is felt in the body and mind. You can explore your experience relationally, honour your emotions, and integrate loss in a way that supports healing and adaptation.

    7. Strengthen Identity & Self-Esteem:

Build a stronger sense of self-worth and authenticity. Through awareness and relational feedback, Gestalt therapy helps you notice patterns that limit confidence and self-expression. This supports a stronger sense of self-worth, authenticity, and personal agency.

    8. Trauma & Unfinished Business:

Gestalt invites you to gently explore past experiences that still show up in the present, allowing for integration and relief from long‑held tension. Raising awareness of strategies and patterns that may no longer serve you and developing new ways of being.

    9. Life Transitions:

Navigate major life changes and transitions. Major life changes can feel overwhelming or uncertain. Gestalt therapy helps you explore how you respond in the moment, experiment with new ways of being, and move forward with clarity, choice, and resilience.

    10. Encourage Self-Discovery & Growth:

Gestalt therapy fosters curiosity and experimentation with your thoughts, feelings, and behaviours. This relational and experiential approach helps you uncover your potential, let go of limiting beliefs, make meaningful choices, and live a more fulfilling life.
